The Australian Jet Ski Association has just published an updated version of a Social Riding Document we used when I was with the Racing.

We've had it overhauled by a panel of subject matter experts to fit with todays requirements and it has some really great information.

I highly recommend everyone who enjoys group riding has a read of it. The link is here:

Btw, if you love riding Jet Skis and would like to support the industry to keep it growing in the right direction, consider becoming a member and having a say in legislation, licensing and facilities etc.

We had an awesome ride Yesterday riding Port of Sale to Lakes Entrance and back.

4 of us Kristy Mirams and Graham Mirams and Bandit not yet on Face Book met at the BP East side of Traralgon and then headed to Port of Sale where Glenn Snashall was already at the ramp waiting.

I left home at 6:00 am in shorts hoping to make this my first ride of the Victorian season in Board shorts and Rashie ended up adding wetsuit and tour coat for the ride.

We launched and headed down the Sale River to the swing bridge unfortunately we were too early to see it open. Then a quick blast down river to Lake Wellington we even had some swans attempting to race us.

Lake Wellington was mirror conditionsh and Kristy did really well with Graham as passenger.

Got to Mclellan straight in record time, pulled up on the sand bank and had a quick chat Glenn got out the Quad Copter and took some aerial shots that critter can get up very high very quickly. Can't wait for Glenn's footage

McLellan straight was ver calm and out into Lake Victoria lots of high speed runs I saw 119 km/hr on the seadoo GPS.

Then into Paynseville and checked out the Limbo bridge and the beautiful Canal Homes, the life of the rich and famous.

Then fast blast passed Metung and onto Lakes Entrance the water was crystal clear with beautiful summer colours.

As we got to lakes the newbies wanted to refuel I convinced everyone that we had heaps of fuel even though my ski was showing zero bars. We went out through the entrance and the conditions were flat as in Bass Straight. We found a tidal break on the bar to the east of the Entrance and had some great jumps. Then back to Lakes to refuel. We were showing 110 Ks covered and I squeezed 55L of fuel into my ski. The new fuel barge at the Entrance has unleaded though not Premium so we headed up to the shell servo were you can pull up on the sand and walk across the street to fuel with premium.

Headed back towards Metung via the passage getting some great speeds. Glenn and I got ahead of the others so stopped to wait. When they caught up craig told me their was an old couple in a fishing boat they could not start their motor craig was going to flag down a boat and send them to tow. I have set up a tow system for my ski so I thought I would test it out. I headed back to the older couple and the others continued to Metung with my order of a Parmi and a Peroni.

When I got to the older couple I don't think they believed that a jetski could tow them. Set up the system and they were sitting in the front of the boathouse up to 20k/hr and I wanted to get to 30 gave the ski more throttle and looked back to see terrified faces sitting in the boat holding on for grim death as the boat was doing a massive zig zag in my wake I'm sure they thought the boat was about to tip over. Slowed down got the couple to sit at the back of the boat and proceeded with tow at 20km/hr. Finished the tow back at lakes Entrance. Then headed back towards Metung via the main passage once I got out of the 10 knot zone thought I better test the ski to make sure the tow had not damaged the splines. Managed 121 Km/hr was a great blast on my own. Caught up with the others at Metung wolfed down an cold Parmi and chips the Peroni must have evaporated.

The wind had started to pick up now and we guided Kristy through smoother waters. At one point it was cold enough that I donned a 2 tour coat. Mclellan straight was a welcome relief. At the mouth to Lake Wellington we regrouped and Glenn got the quad copter out and we did some staged manoeuvres when we get the footage we will need to put the disclaimer do not attempt this at home these tricks have been performed by professionals in controlled environment.

Graham joined me on my ski for the crossing of lake Wellington and luckily the wind had swung so it was from the rear qtr.

Great ride up the Sale River then had to check out the Thompson river gets narrow up by the railway bridge.

Then back to Port of Sale, pack up and head for Home.

Stay tuned Glenn will be editing the quad copter footage and publishing. I have lots of clips on my new phone. So far I have merged them and about to call Brett Carroll for advice on re-orienting and culling so I will have a vid for you to enjoy.

Hi George, great summary of the group ride to Lakes Entrance you did n Sunday Aug 23. As a newbie I have a lot to learn but with practice I hope to enjoy these rides with you in the future. I'm in Taylors Lakes Vic 3038. Planning to get my ski on the water the first chance I get. Won't be wearing shorts though. Sounds like you were a little keen at 6am. Good story and thanks for letting me be included. Will keep your number handy. I'm not on face book either. gp
