Werribee South PWC Ramp
« on: September 20, 2008, 11:04:37 AM »
Werribee South has a dedicated PWC area and boat ramp. In so doing, PWC's are banned from the boat ramp located in the river which is of a reasonable standard.

The ramp
Is of very average quality and you must launch directly into the bay. Accordingly if the weather and waves are up, this can be quite hazardous as there is no protection from the water.

Car Parking
There is very limited car parking facilities with room for only 2 to 3 vehicles with trailers.

Fee's
There are no fee's to be paid at this ramp.

Hazards

There are no hazards to speak of other than watch the weather when retrieving.

Facilities

There are no facilities at this ramp.

I do not recommend this ramp for beginners

From what I have seen from the water I agree with df537 this ramp looks dodgy.

used this ramp today as i went out with a friend who lives around the corner from it, didnt seem to bad to me, not a very long ramp before it turns to sand probably not the best for those with sedans with the 4x4 it doesnt bother me.

mate launched his gp1200 off a double trailer (non roller) behind a sedan without any issues tho.

just as said no protection from the weather but it wasnt to bad of a day today, quite shallow out to the red bouy but still seemed to be people riding around 10m off shore near parked ski's was the only thing pissing me off!!

This ramp really is bad with the tides, and quite often I have seen cars driving right out into the ocean to get skis.

I actually prefer to launch from the main ramp, and now with the new zones PWC's can launch from the main ramps.  The first one is often never used, so its quick to get in and out.  Worth paying the the extra $$$'s to prevent damage from your pride an joy.  Also Werrbee PWC often also bring out the hoodlums, so I tend to keep well away.

Just my 2cents.

Hi Earwig,

Curious about what you say in this post :

"and now with the new zones PWC's can launch from the main ramps"

There are still signs up at the mai Werribee ramp saying that you can't launch PWCs. Do the new rules mean that we can ? Does that also mean all the restrictions around there have gone ?

Hey Mate.

To me it looks very offical http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/resources/mresources/boat_zones/03_Werribee-Williamstown.pdf

I would take a copy of this with you, and if you get questioned pull it out.  I have launched there about 10 times, and they have told me on about 3 occasions that I am not allowed to , and that if caught Police will charge me.  They are full of crap, as look at the boat zones.

Just take a copy with you, and they have not a leg to stand on

Hey earwig dude I agree, so long as we don't draw undue attention can't see the problem. I have been watching Jetskis for weeks after work, can't say I'm impressed at all. Need to do some education real bad. No planned direction, close to boat ramp/shore, although legal, recovering the same water back and forth changing direction at last minute with boats behind, this is all I see them do. They are riding 3 seaters capable of distance riding!! People we need to get out there like Jetski junkies and encourage them to go tripping [ planned destinations from point a to point b] our sport needs it otherwise more accidents will happen. Maybe a jetski awareness day would be a good idea with people representing the Water police or coast guard attending to give talks, what do you rekon? Earwig this could give you the opportunity to ask the officials your question about whether you can launch there.
Ultra 250x likes open spaces, long drives to the water, and having its engine ringed out. looking for like minded PWC's. Will consider group session.

Hey,

That sounds dandy, at a min at least it shows commitment to responsible riding.  I even refuse to take my famly down there given the cowboys and poor behaviour I have seen down there.  Given that Wyndham Harbour will be done in two years, we should at least provide information to fellow riders at Werribee (There are heaps) of what damage they are doing to our sport.

Obviously boys will be boys, but if we are able to convince the masses, then we have done our job

Great idea!

Guys,

Confirmation that you can launch from the main Werribee Boat ramp

Nick,

Parks Victoria as part of the Boating Zone review have removed the PWC only zone and the No PWC zone from the Werribee River.  The area is now available for PWC's to lauch so long as you pay the launching fee to the Werribee Coast Guard and observe the 5 knot in the river and on the way out to 200m from the shore.

Attention PWC Users at Werribee South:

The Werribee South Jet Ski Ramp will be removed in September 2012.  As per Parks Victoria advice, PWC riders are now able to launch from the much safer location, the Werribee South Boat Ramps.  More information about Council's decision to remove the Jet Ski ramp can be found at: http://www.experiencewyndham.com.au/leisure__recreation/water/powered_water_craft

More information about the facilities available at the Werribee South Boat Ramp can be found at:
