St Kilda Marina
« on: September 16, 2008, 10:20:40 AM »
St Kilda Marina is a concrete ramp in highly sheltered water.  Launching is straightforward with no complications with tide etc.

Address
The  main entrance to the St Kilda Marina is located on the corners of Dickens Street and Marine Parade, Elwood. There is BP service station on the SW corner.  Melways 2P A12.

The ramp
Wide concrete ramp allowing room for up to 4 trailers at a time to launch of good quality.

Car Parking
Secure (obtain coin from machine first to open boom gate) car parking facilities. Plenty of room however fills quickly during summer.

Fee's
The fee is $10 in $1 or $2 coins. The large yellow machine is located next to the ramp on the eastern side. You will need the coin the machine gives up to access the boom gate into the parking area.

Hazards
Be aware of bicycle riders, rollerbladers, pedestrians & general sightsighters that cut across the drive into & out of the ramp.

NB: This ramp is heavily effected by road closures in Summer. See post below.

Facilities
There is a BP there with great coffee (Wild Bean). There are also rest rooms and a bar. It can be busy on a good day but generally very well mannered.
The tie up is along 2 jettys. They are a bit high for Skis so we always use fenders as a precaution.

Thats an interesting comment Ciantar, the following Web Cam Link provided by 'Admin' links me to a clean boat ramp, not a rubbish dump.  bw
