Clifton Springs Boat Ramp
« on: December 11, 2008, 06:16:07 PM »
Address
The enterance to the Clifton Springs ramp is located off Jetty Road that crosses over BayShore Avenue, Clifton Springs.

The ramp
There is a double concrete ramp. The most gentle slope I've come across and plenty of length into the water. Plenty of room to tie up at the jetty pontoons on each side of the ramp.

Car Parking

Free parking in adjacent car park with a number of spaces available.

Fee's
No fee payable. It's FREE.

Hazards
None really other than the shallow waters outside the ramp enclosure.

Facilities
Shopping centre nearby with the Humble Chef (aka Hutch) 16a high st, Drysdale, just up the road.

A highly recommended boat ramp if you want to launch to play in Corio Bay by heading to Geelong in the west or venture east past Port Arlington to St Leonards.

Another visit to the Clifton Springs boat ramp has revealed a new ramp & pontoon area....very nice.
This would have to be one of my favourite ramps in Victoria.

The two ramps there came in very handy -

- the big one (2 lanes) was full all day with fishing boats
- the small one (new?) (1 lane concrete paving blocks) was perfect for PWC and almost no traffic (never saw anyone else launch off it).
There is a toilet block but no showers.

LATEST NEWS ON THE SMALL RAMP as of December '09

when launching from the small ramp/pontoons, you need to travel
(1) directly towards the big ramp, THEN
(2) out of the cove
because there is a sandbar between the small ramp and the entrance,
it's only about 1' deep and can easily ground a PWC in weeds and muck
and they'd get sucked into the intake and all that (yuk).
I don't know if the sandbar is semi-permanent or a new temporary random thing.
