A MAN has been taken to hospital on the Gold Coast after being plucked out of the ocean by a rescue helicopter.

It’s understood the man was knocked off his jet ski by dangerous waves at Jumpinpin Bar, between North and South Stradbroke Islands around 2.30pm.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter was called in to help lifesavers rescue the man.
He was winched out of the water and flown back to shore at Main Beach where he was met by paramedics.

He has since been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
A woman also needed rescued from rough surf at Greenmount Beach just before 11.30am.

Lifesavers say the woman got into trouble while bodyboarding, despite the beach being closed.

Surf Life Saving Queensland is warning swimmers to keep out of the water, with dangerous surf conditions whipped up by ex-Tropical Cyclone Gita expected to persist into tomorrow.

A 24-foot wave (7.5m) was recorded around a kilometre offshore of Tweed Heads around 3.30pm.

All Gold Coast beaches remain closed.
