Australian jet Ski Association – News updates & 2017 Survey Results

The AJSA recently undertook the 2017 survey to gain a snapshot of where we are heading as a sport and what our Jet Skiers are looking for.
We had an excellent response that seems to represent the sport equally to what the statistics suggest.
Thank you to those who took the time to help us form this understanding. If we haven’t yet contacted those of you who requested us to do so, please let us know.

Here are the highlights
The majority of responses came from these states in order; Queensland, Victoria, NSW, and WA
80% Male respondents
75% over 40 years of age
95% riding for less than 5 years

97% want Cars removed from Car Trailer Units (CTU’s)
98% Feel we need better facilities at Boat Ramps such as wash down facilities, more CTU’s and better protection when docked and cleaner queuing Beaches
98% asked for PLB’s over EPIRBS in legislation
91% believe we need better enforcement of Hoons to stop them spoiling the sport for all of us
15% Licence age riased to 18

74% want more events to join on their Skis
97% of them want more family type of events such as fundraising rides with adventures and luncheons etc.
65% Want to do time trial racing
2% Wanted Closed Course and endurance Racing

The AJSA will use this information when dealing with authorities on infrastructure and legislation issues.
We are also planning some awesome events in conjunction with mainstream media for social riders and time trials. This will let others know all about how awesome our sport is, and as it grows, so will the industry and therefore our options as Jet Ski owners.

Despite the lack of response for racing, there is a clear need for it as an outlet for those that are interested.
In light of a recent unlawful racing event being conducted in a public areas with no permit or qualified safety measures in place, the AJSA has stepped up its lobbying for a dedicated arena, close to the Gold Coast, to enable these events to occur with far more accessibility.

The Sunshine Coast has a facility underway which we lobbied for and this has given fresh attention for the same on the Gold Coast.

We are working with many Boating organisations, local environment groups, MP’s, local government, State Government and general community representatives to have this facility up and running asap.

How can you get involved?
We’re on the look out for more volunteers to help us do all these wonderful activities! The kind of help we need is for Marshals and administration. Its FUN, rewarding and helps out our Jet Ski community so please give it some serious thought
Keep an eye out for the announcement of our upcoming FREE training day.
