Tassie in March/April?
« on: September 10, 2008, 09:09:24 PM »
Rebel once posted ideas for a Tassie ride:
Had thought of doing some or all of the following last year:

1. South of Hobart. Circumnavigate Bruny Island
2. East coast. Circumnavigate Maria Island
3. East coast. Launch from Coles Bay area and navigate to Tassie's famous Wineglass Bay
4. Northern inland - Spend a day on Lake Barrington
5. Maybe other rivers etc (Derwent, Tamar, Sth Esk etc if too rough for the island trips)

Interested if a good number of the Vic group want to team up (plus a Tassie local who has done the trips).
Say 6 skis at least ??  a lot more fun, and safer.

Kym and i just came back from 10 days driving around tassie.  ( no ski's bugger )
And yes we saw heaps of places that would be great on a Ski.
But much more enjoyable during summer on a calm day.

I'd really like to get this Tassie ride on the map  pt

The weather will be suitable for this around March-April so we shouldt start planning it soon.

Big Bear mentioned a possible method of transportation we could use to get there. Which solves most of the issues.

Is anyone else keen to persue this?

RD - Yes.   Sandra - Not sure (depends on work commitments).
Monkey- Yes.  Little Missy - no (won't buy a ski)

I'd love to ride the Ski in Tassie.

I went to Uni in Hobart and we used to Windsurf on the derwent when snow was blowing off the mountain.

Good point re the permit? Do we need one?

I'll do some research next week when I have a bit more time.

Hiya Strongy wn

Tassie is a very special place I would love to visit on a ski.
I've been there a few times. The first time I went, I proposed to my wife at Wineglass bay. Coles Bay / Freycinet is an amazing part of Tassie.

We only done the wineglass ride a few weeks ago, it was a great day.
You should make the trip down.
