Where to ride in Adelaide
« on: September 12, 2008, 10:12:46 AM »
Hello SA funsters  wv

Focker and I are heading your way in the 2nd week of Feb and we're bringing the Skis. We were hoping to make it for the KI ride but it looks like thats on the long w/end in Jan so we'll miss it this time.

So where would be a great place to ride? I remember watching some ppl around garden Island once. Can the Port River be ridden on Skis? I seem to recall great pancakes there somewhere.

We're also really keen to ride Goolwa and around the Milang area. Any special tips about those areas. Has anyone ever ridden Milang - Point Mcleay/Narrung? Maybe you guys have a group ride we could join?

Anyway any ideas would be appreciated.

Guys goolwa is getting pretty low again and got some mongrel weed in there now blocks pumps up
You can launch from the bluff at victor thats not a bad ride or come down the port adelaide way we can go for a ride around torrens island.

Hi to all,

My first post and decided to try and kick this one into action.
I am from Adelaide, blame my parents, and have just purchased a 2012 Yamaha VX18R ski. wh

Have ridden kawasaki and seadoo before but decided to purchase a Yamaha, seemed like a great ski, plenty of grunt on paper without going overboard.

My question is where to launch it from?
I have friends who have a place on the Murray but I am close to the sea and to give it the first run I need to give it a few hours of gently gently until its worn in.

Was speaking to someone today who said they launched from Northhaven and when they  got back, had some serious damage done to their trailer by halfwits in boats.
The second time was at another ramp nearby and had the tyres slashed and valves cut off, Nice mentality.

My daughter and I have gone halves in the jetski and she will need to be able to launch it and not have to worry about morons.

If anyone lives in Adelaide and have a safe spot to launch from please let me know.

Hey Greenman,
Which part of the Coast are you near? I'm not sure how many options of boat ramps there are over there nto the Gulf.

One thing I do know is if you have a Footy orientation it pays to show it if your at the right end and not show it if your at the wrong end ;)

We lived there for over 20 years and couldn't take the Car over to visit just because of the Vic license plates! No much has changed :(

So yes the Murray is unreal. you also have the Lakes and Goolwa. I know many people launch just North of Glenelg into the Gulf and Port Stanvac used to be a good ramp.
I think theres a fair bit of Skiing action around Torrens Island, or there def used to be.
These days we have Qld plates so it's a bit safer to visit good ol SA. Hopefully we will make id down there again one day  clp

Great choice in Ski btw, we're doing some amazing development with handling on them and they are looking awesome.
See you on the water for some FUN!

Hi again,

I think the Victorian hate thing started back when we lost the Grand Prix, and Eddie McGuire has a lot to answer for, hee hee.
A Crows supporter I am and believe me we have nothing to crow about this year.

Most people have a dig backwards and forwards but always in fun unless you are at the footy in another state, shhh, keep your head down and say nothing.

I took the jetski out today and can give it a very good thumbs up.

As a matter of fact I did take it around Torrens Island and launched at Garden Island boat ramp.
Water was great, but I think I will be kicking Rudolf out of lead position on the sleigh this year.
My wife looks like a Racoon with nice white eyes and red face.
Was a nice day, not that hot but enough to get burnt.

I live north of Adelaide and about 40 minutes drive to Torrens island but live much closer to St Kilda.
Not sure what it would be like to launch from there as it has always been a weedy little area but would be great being so close.

I will post my experience today with the VX18R in the Yamaha area.

G'day Greenman,
the ramp by Port Stanvac is ok, there is always someone at the kiosk there and the parking has camaras as well
I'm not sure about the adelaide yacht club rather bu can launch from there but I have beached there before and its a nice place too.. its just north or glenelg..
