What's the crack with going to watch river fire on a Jet ski/ boat. Can you just rock up?

No, its very restricted and you need to go in early.

New Years Eve is awesome for fireworks. You can see them up close from heaps of places.

Jetskis are allowed but you would need to have your entry flag by now as they restrict the total number of watercraft. The main problem is you need to be in place by 5 PM and can't leave until 8 PM – so you would be sitting on the ski stationary for about three hours.
