Performance Question VX 1100 2006 model power loss
« on: March 02, 2014, 07:51:44 PM »
I have a vx110 2006 model, I just put a new prop on today and wear ring but still goes only 60km/h top speed at 8000rpm. As I brought this at Xmas and did the same before I did the prop any help would be great.

Hi Rodney, hows your spark plugs and compression?
60kms isn't too good eh! Is this by gps?

Doing I compression test tomorrow and putting new plugs as we'll, let you know, speed was on the dash.

Just did a compression test there from a 115 - 125 psi what should they be around? Putting it in the water tomorrow, so new prop, wear ring, new plugs and pulled the air intake pipe out of the air box so let's see what it does.

Good plan. I assume the compression test was on a cold motor so it sounds in range.
I know it's a new prop but just check the clearance around it against the wearing.

Is the fuel fresh? Have you checked the flow/pressure?

Let us know how you go!

Hows it running? Is it idling ok?
Whats the clearance on the prop like? Did you replace the wearing? What size prop did you replace the old one with?

If you ulike I can put you onto someone who can get to the problem really quickly for you.

Sorry to jump in but I've got a VX 1100 2006 and it runs like a dream.....top speed around 75mph ? Always been the same, is this not normal ?
Now I'm thinking maybe mines not running as efficient as it should ????

Hi Guys from what I read the specs for this ski are:
(out of the box) 83-84 km on the rev limiter @8050rpm with 18/24 prop. seeing your ski is getting max revs but no speed it just about gotta be in the drive right? would an 18/22 prop make that much difference? the ride plate is standard? cr0k im curious as to what the diagnoses is.

BTW the spec on the compression is:Spec is a minimum of 164 psi, with no more than 14 psi difference between any 2 cyls on the same engine. I assume that's hot not cold as Mandy mentioned above

Very good research Johno  chr
If the prop really is a 18/22 it should really be pulling around another 3-600rpm @ top speed over a 18/24. That would be very high revs for that Ski.
However very few props really measure correctly out of the box. Given the low compression that may be a reason to be down on speed but heat from inefficient cooling, bad/old fuel, dodgy fuel delivery are all possibles here too.

Unless its dragging an anchor or extremely weighed down or heat or air flow in or out its going to be fuel, ignition or compression.
Ignition is probably ok due to the new plugs unless there is a problem with the charge on the battery?
So fuel and compression is probably all that is left  jsgif

How are you getting the speed? Dash or gps? If you have an iPhone download app called max speed and will get the real sped via gps
