Canberra PWC Enthusiasts group
« on: June 20, 2012, 10:53:32 PM »
The Canberra PWC Enthusiasts group

The group was formed from the old Canberra Jetsports Boating Association (CJSBA), which we disbanned in late 2001.  The club was finding hard to obtain insurance cover along with nearly every other social or sporting club as a result of the fall of two major insurance companies.  As a affiliate with the AJSBA and we could not be insured, we closed the CJSBA and all went go-karting with what was left.  A great night.

The ACT Govt had chosen to de-register 360 registered clubs due to the lack of submitting formal forms and reporting.  Acting on advice by the then Attorney General's dept, we formed the Canberra PWC enthusiasts group in August 2002.

The group is mainly made up of social riders, and mostly runabout riders who enjoy exploring the coast and inland waterways.  At the peak we had 84 email contacts and local interested PWCers.

When it suits, we meet at the Hellenic Club in Woden on the second Wed of every second month.  Social rides are organised via social media websites or email and mobile SMS.

We have member who fight for PWC rights, both at a State and Territory laws, we run educational rides and assist newbies.  Having access to qualified mechanical technical guys and PWC/Boating mechanics.

If you need any further info.  Call Peter 0413 58 58 90   wc

Club is still going, a bit more relaxed these days.  The dinners are planned two months apart or as needed.
Social rides are regular.   Rides vary with touring ir adventure styles along coast.

Hi Charlie,

Congratulations on the new purchases.

If you and your friend are interested, then the Canberra guys are getting together for dinner at 7pm on Wednesday 13/8/14 at the Bistro of the Hellenic Club at Woden.  Nothing formal, just a meet and greet.  You're both most welcome to join us.

If you're not a member of the Club then just have me paged or ring me when you arrive and I'll sign you in.

Rory,

I am also keen on checking the club out, do I need to become a member or anything or just turn up to a meeting? Are there any other regular meetings and if so how do I find out?

Cheers

Ash

Hi Ash,

No membership, it's just a group of guys and girls with a common interest.

Also, no set monthly meetings.  We're pretty informal and just get together whenever we feel the need.

You're more than welcome to join us at 7pm at the Hellenic Club tomorrow night (Wednesday the 13th).  If you're not a member of the Hellenic Club then have me paged at the Reception Desk or give me a call and I'll sign you in.

No worries Ash. we still had about a dozen people turn up, including another newby.

No set dates for our 'get togethers'.  It's just whenever we feel the need.  Very informal.

As for average age ... hmmm ... our riders would be from late teens/early 20's through to mid 50's.  Some of them have a preference for wave jumping, whilst others enjoy exploring the coast line or rivers/lakes.  We try to ride areas that offer a bit of everything.

Hi, I have also recently purchased a seadoo gtx, so I am interested in meeting other fellow riders. Do you have any plans for a get together or rides in the near future?

We will be represented at a Maritime Marine Safety day on 28th Sept being held at Hanging Rock boat ramp.
Look for SeaDoo and Yamaha tents.

Haven't got around to fb.
Use this site instead.

Rides are monthly, however our next social ride is Skifari at South West Rocks.
Meetings or dinners as we call them are not planned as we used to have them.
PM for contacts and emails if it helps.

The next ride is an annual interstate ride known as Skifari and in a bid to make it easier on all travellers it was planned to be at South West Rocks on NSW north coast.  However some events have been overtaken and a bunch are riding at Port Stephens instead.
Either way its an annual ride held around Melb cup weekend.

As we have around 12 to 16 riders heading up to SWR later this week.

Next ride is not yet planned but maybe in a couple of weeks time.

We have been working up to another long ride up or down coast.  But it's whale season too so make sure you keep an eye open and keep your distance.
See Bay Post newspaper today with carcass washed up on north head Batemans bay.
Also be aware of the new exclusion zone around the PWC hire facility.

Canberra Motorcycle Centre (CMC) has been selling a good number of new SeaDoo watercraft since taking on the BRP dealership and to enhance the CanAm Spyers and Side by Side vehicles.

Just a message to all local riders on the forum, we have regular rides and information on local regional rides, places that have restrictions, places of interest and potential hazards.
  shk

We are interested in adventure rides, and off shore.  The older club members (CJSBA) also includes the ski (stand-ups) riders, a couple of old X2 lovers.  So if you want to join in, its all free.
 cu

The next ride is planned this coming weekend at Batemans bay region, potential dinner or night out dinning.  A couple of the group are also attending the NSWPWC information and education day on the 13th Dec held at San Souci Sailing Club.  A new Kawasaki 310 I understand will be on demo. cr0k

So stay in touch.

Hi,

Is it still current that as ACT does not have a waterway authority that ACT residents can register their JetSki in either QLD, NSW or VIC?? As I have just bought a ski from VIC and wish to keep the rego in that state as it is by far a lot cheaper than NSW.

Does this apply also to our licenses as NSW is a rip off, am thinking of getting a QLD license transferred from current NSW, as that is a once if fee only....

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi Matt,

In a word "Yes".  There's no ACT legislation that permits the issuing of an ACT PWC licence or rego., therefore if you're an ACT resident then licence and registration for a PWC can be obtained in ANY State.  My son lives in the ACT and the ski is legally VIC registered and he legally holds a VIC PWC licence.  Some of the Canberra guys even have Vic rego for the ski but have a life time Qld PWC licence.  There have been instances where Vic Roads operators were saying no to the ACT guys when attempting to obtain their rego and licence, but this was just because the Vic Roads operator wasn't aware of the legislation.  I'm sure Canbpete will be able to provide you with  more insight into the legalities if you care to send him a Personal Message.

Regards
Rory

Hi, I am looking for riders to join up with to maybe try smaller waves for first time. I am fairly new to Jetski, although do spend a huge amount of jetski riding time towing skiers etc, but would like to try something more exciting. I am located in Canberra, anyone interested, I like to join, give me a call Wayne 0408674333. Cheers

Hi Wayneo,

Smaller waves is the way everyone starts.  We've got guys in our group who love getting some air and you're most welcome to join in.  It really is more fun riding when you're in a group.  As always, the more the merrier.
