AJSA Announcement Jet Skiing @ Seal Rocks, Victoria

Please see the attached information regarding interaction with Marine life in Victoria.

The organisation that is responsible for the management of Seal Rocks (off the coast of Phillip Island), which is home to the world’s largest Australian Fur Seal Colony, has been getting complaints about Jet Skiers in the area causing animals some distress.

This info will help to keep the area open to all of us who are doing the right thing.

Over the last few months their staff have witnessed an increase in Jet Ski activity around the Seal Rocks colony with many operators breaching regulations under the Wildlife Act 1975.

Issues include approaching at high speed, erratic maneuvering and approaching too close to seals and pups.

This activity can have a serious negative impact on breeding success and welfare of seals.

Ultimately Jet Skis could be excluded from this magnificent area because of the minor few.

Please read the attached document for the finer regulatory details and lets all work together to keep our access open for everyone to enjoy!
