Jet Ski Community Issues Saturday 25th April - Coolangatta/Tweed Heads Dawn Service 4.30am
« on: April 21, 2015, 05:29:42 PM »
A re-enactment of the Gallipoli Landing will take place in the Jack Evans Boat Harbour commencing at approximately 4.30am.

The Dawn Service at Jack Evans Boat Harbour will commence immediately after the re-enactment. Two large screens will broadcast the Dawn Service live to the parks around the harbour.

After the dawn Service we will make our way to the Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads Boat Ramp.

The ride plan is to head out the Tweed River and turn South and go for a play in the waves at Fingal Head. Then it will be off to Cook Island for a Dive and then further South to Kingscliffe into Cudgen Creek to enjoy a beautiful Breaky.

The Boat Ramp is here;http://www.whereis.com/nsw/tweed-heads-2485/poi-LN036001102396333

We are planning to take the Skis to the ramp at about 3.45 and all pile into one Car to get to the Service. Parking with Trailers may be difficult at the Harbour.
The ramp has limited parking but the street parking is excellent.

Everyones wc to join us for this very special ANZAC day memorial.

The forecast for this ride is for a cool morning but a cracker day with little wind and bright sunshine: http://magicseaweed.com/Fingal-Head-Surf-Report/1015/

Heres a bit more info about tomorrows ANZAC activities.

Gallipoli landing to be re-enacted at Tweed Heads

A re-enactment of the Gallipoli dawn landing by Anzac troops will break the early morning calm around Jack Evans Boat Harbour at Tweed Heads for 15 minutes tomorrow (Saturday) morning, as the clock turns back 100 years on the beach setting.

A lighting and battle soundtrack will burst to life as 40 surf lifesavers dressed in World War 1 uniforms carrying authentic armoury come ashore in a fleet of boats at the harbour.

The event is expected to bring thousands of people to the boat harbour parklands to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli.

Orgainsers say that for those 15 minutes, months of work by hundreds of people will finally be realised as the harbour becomes a giant outdoor stage for the dramatic re-enactment of the dawn landing at Gallipoli.

Timed to start at 5am, the event is funded by an Australian Government ANZAC Centenary Grant, Tweed Heads and Coolangatta RSL Sub-branch and Twin Towns Services Club.

It is the centrepiece of what are expected to be two moving and important services – the first – dawn at Jack Evans and then the second, the traditional march and service will march off from Goodwin Park Coolangatta at 10.30am with the morning service starting at the Memorial in Chris Cunningham Park from 11am.

Sub-branch member Dr John Griffin said both the dawn service at Tweed and the morning service at Coolangatta ‘have become iconic events in their own rights in this region, drawing large crowds both to march and view the proceedings’.

‘But this year we wanted to do something memorable to mark this special and poignant occasion. This event has been more than a year in the planning, with the finishing touches now being added to this, the most ambitious and momentous endeavour ever undertaken by this organisation,’ Dr Griffin said.

The man charged with bringing the sights and sounds of that fateful long ago morning to the contemporary crowd and bringing the vision of the Tweed Heads & Coolangatta RSL to life is Mick James from Venutech Lighting and Audio.

Mick believes it will be a goose-bump moment and said he hoped the soundtrack made people realise that war was real.

‘There will eight towers of speakers and lighting and special effects to bring the re-enactment to life,’ he said.

BTW the weather is looking terrific for this ride, bright sunshine, no wind except for a light westerly.  btw I'm told we will not need to carry fuel  countsheep
I think we'll be leaving the ramp at 6.30am

Hi guys, sorry for late post but regards riding ANZAC Day from Tweed looks great. Thinking of heading out through the Tweed   seaway heading south (via Cook Island, maybe a dive, even later so as not to get so cold before breakfast.) Then down to Kingscliffe, which is only 10 kls down from the Tweed Seaway, through a very shallow creek entrance which leads us close to the local cafes! Very nice beach breaks all the way. Tank of fuel should be heaps. See you in the morning.

OMG What a perfect day on the water  blma

The early start was well worth it as we were treated to an unbelievably realistic re-enectment of ANZAC Cove on the Tweed River
In darkness we could see the boats coming ashore with water exploding all around them and gunfire, bombs and the sound effects to go with it. The crowd was silent as we watched the proceedings and were given a birds eye view of the horror of those days. I think I'll have a few bad dreams following that one but it was a once in a lifetime experience to learn about all this history.
As the sun rose the service began which was just how I like it - short and sweet. Given the pin still bright sunny conditions I just wanted to hit the water. We had looked at it long enough!

Back to the ramp we went and launched our Skis. Then we lost one of our own - man down, Nigels drifting in the River with a Ski not keen on going for a ride at all.
So I towed him in with my Yammy and that was the first "first" for the day.
Nigel was riding my Kwaka as his was half way through a major service (which I hadn't been able to get done in time). However since my Yammy hasn't broken down in 8 outings (another first & 2nd for the day) he was to ride my Kwaka. Since it hasn't been out in a while - mmmm flat battery!
On a side note when a batter is older than 12 months they benefit from being on a trickle charge if you don't ride them every week  cnsrd

So we put my Kwaka back on the Trailer and set off 2 up on my Yammy. Having never been 2 up, only ever being towed and me having to go on the tow Ski, this was the 3rd first for the day. My Yammy getting Nigel out on the water was very amusing given how much he usually doesnt enjoy it's company  clp cl clp

Once underway we knew straight away we were in for a bit of a treat. All the way down the coast to breakfast at Kingscliffe was an unreal scenic treat.
The water was crystal clear, the swell was rolling in and the surface was just glass or light chop on top. Oh and the sun was warm and bright  wh

There wasn't much beach not being inhabited by Surfers so jumping was a little limited but we were followed by Dolphins and they are just so intrigued with Skis these days it's becoming unbelievable.

Anyway by now Nigel was on Miltons Ski so he could utilise the Swell Rider rescue board for filming. We were sitting around when some Dolphins came up so Nigel rolled into the water. Wait till he releases the video of what happened next!!!

The ride back was just as good, if not a bit better. We tied up at Cook Island for some jibber jabber but TD was getting a little green in the waves  brp

goyam Ahh Tazzie the Yammy had a great day out. Coming up the Tweed a noisy 300LX came up and picked on my little Ski.
In front of all his mates too.  cl    Back to the drawing board there Dude  ml1

So we all headed off the Subway with some byo frothys  br

But wait, there's more! Some thought it was funny that my fine steed Geko the Ultra was not going. So once I was home I put a new battery in it and given it's full tank I thought to myself why not! Well the day just got better and I had it all to myself!   awsm

Down to the ramp I went and me and Geko set off on what was my favorite lap of Straddie ever  The conditions had become even better!!!  blma

The swell was still rolling in but it was glass in between. The sun was starting to drop but I still managed to get burnt on top of my burnt
Who cares, this was one of the best days of Jet Skiing ever     bleh

Cant wait for next weekend    ht15

btw, the 2nd photo down is the F/A-18 making it's way down the coast.
It was coming straight at us and I had my fingers crossed he'd seen us and wasn't going to flame us  wv

That was such an awesome weekend. The Dolphins were so keen to play.

Its a bit chilly now but last night I heard the Whales are in Australian waters and will be here in 2-3 weeks.

Enjoy  blma
