Jet Ski Safety Boat Ramp Etiqutte
« on: June 22, 2014, 06:26:31 PM »
So I was waiting for my turn to load my Ski at Sea World ramp today when I had two things happen.
It makes me wonder how much other drama happens that I miss.

I was waiting to back my trailer in when one of the tourist Ducks (Super Duck) approached. I let him go first as I'm sure most of you do and he proceeded to drive into the water at speed to give the tourists a thrill. The resulting bow wave washed my ski off the beach and I had to run down to catch it. The Aqua Duck was following it and he took it at a easier pace.

Secondly I was winching my Ski onto the trailer when some tool decided to back his trailer into my leg. It was lucky it was only a glancing blow but it was pretty close to trapping my leg between the 2 trailers.

Will be making a complaint to Super Duck in the morning and I wont be giving them right of way again!

Ok the super duck was a bit of a douce bag act but at what point did the person reversing think Hey I am about to hit someone. Me when I had my boat it was a drive on and people would always push there boat or in front as I was on final approach had some close calls

The Super Duck is a great tourist attraction and I think it's wonderful for the Gold Coast. However this ramp behaviour has got to stop.
I have seen Skis skittled, boats thrown into people and children bowled over in the water from their wakes.
They do this in the name of tourist entertainment, just like the guys in boats doing broncos around the Divers are considered ok in the name of tourism.
Complaining to Super Duck is fruitless. They receive complaints all the time.
Take it up with the GCCC they also receive many complaints but are the ones with the power to take their operating license. Not that they ever would - in the name of tourism.
We don't use that ramp much but whenever we do we have the cameras ready. Whenever they see us they slow down to 6 knotts like they are supposed to.
Perhaps fixed cameras at the ramps are the answer here. I see so much childish behavior around the launching of boats (and Skis unfortunately) often by parents with kids present! Tells us the next generation will do the same if this irrational playground mentality isn't given a reason to change!

It is at such a poor point now (boat ramp behaviour) that, as much as i hate to say it, now needs to be on a user pay basis with a permanent ramp attendant managing (paid for from the fees taken to launch) the ramps and any bad behaviour. Whist i absolutely hate another form of payment for boating it may be the only realistic answer long term as i only see this problem getting worse due to poor role models kids are observing today...it is just such a shame that a great day on the water can be ruined by 1 minute of some idiots ignorance of others. Maybe it will get better as hopefully the next generation is better educated than some of their parents... Lets hope ...

I wish all ramps had one way in and onother way out. (Better planned permanent direction).
Like Mandy said, cameras.
Also a coffee drive through would be great.
Maybe hungry jacks too.

and its only going to get worse with more boats skis and less boat ramps eg pool ramp gone  4 car wide and 30 plus trailer park.
I find most people are well behaved a few weeks ago my friend ski sunk and ask a boatie   I know you are in front of us but a favour please said we need to pull out a sunk ski could we go first he said YES thanked him very much  just have to be nice and you get a dickhead just let them be not worth it.

Around here the biggest problem is people fishing and cast netting of the ramps, they think it's fine to take up half the lane with there bits and pieces and also let kids run around as you are trying to back down.
