« on: October 06, 2010, 10:29:49 AM »
wc For all riders going on their first ride please maintain sensible Rider Etiquette at all times.

Always obey all rules, regulations, laws and customs applicable to the area you are riding in.

When PWC's ride as a group we represent the image of our industry. Please remember this and show everyone what a great sport Jet Skiing really is.

If you have any questions please post it in the ride information post and any of the other riders will help you out.

Make some new Mates, if your going out for a ride and would like some company, Post your plans and you may end up with some fellow riders joining you.  fl

wv Let us in on your story  by introducing youself here "http://pwcfun.com.au/index.php?topic=198.0">

Please remember that every ride arranged here is participated in at the riders own risk.

wh Its that time of the year again and I thought it would be timely to bump this one up again  chr

Last weekend there were many new riders at the Boat Ramp which is excellent  wv

However there were a couple who werent quite sure how it all works and held up the ramps for long times making a few boaties  cnsrd

So heres some helpful hints to get you started. If anyone can add to it please feel wc

* Always prepare and pack your Ski before reversing down the ramp. This will mean you are on the ramp for less time and won't hold up the flow of users.

* This is when you make sure the bungs are in and the back tie downs are off.

* Never undo the chain or the winch strap until the Ski is safely in the water at the back and you are ready to launch.

* Have a plan of where you will tie up, anchor or beach your Ski while you park the Car

* Dont run the motor out of the water if in a built up residential area (especially early)!

* Practice reversing at home. Always inspect the ramp before reversing down it.

* Once you launch, remove your Car off the ramp in a timely manner but you don't have to rush and leave your Ski at risk. If you have planned well you will be getting the job done soon enough.

When riding in a group it works really well and has less impact on other water users if 1 or 2 people stay with the Skis and do the riding onto trailers while the others get their Cars.

Frustrations tend to happen when people do things like; back off the ramp, dont prepare in the carpark, drop Skis on the ramp, Leave trailers unsecured to the Car so the trailer comes off, leave the Car parked on the ramp while they joy ride. All of which was happening last weekend  zl

http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/safety-rules/publications/boat-ramp-etiquette.pdf

Also a note, under NSW Maritime law it mentions that a PFD (life jacket) MUST be worn on a PWC "at all times", this did include launching your ski (Rolling off the trailer) and transferring it to a pontoon/jetty.

I raised this with the GM of Maritime (RMS), after providing a number of examples of pontoons next  to the ramp, he has agreed that a Boating Services Officer (BSO) will not charge (fine) a PWC operator if direct transfer the watercraft from trailer to a pontoon or beach along side the ramp without wearing the PFD.  However if you launch and ride out on the waterways you can expect to receive an infringement.
