« on: February 20, 2019, 04:33:21 PM »
Dear Stakeholders,

As the track of tropical cyclone Oma (approximately 1100 kilometres North East of Brisbane) becomes more established, forecast to move towards the southwest and the Queensland Coast over the next few days, Stakeholders are encouraged to commence preparations in their area.

A  high energy swell event with large and powerful sea conditions including gale force winds, generated by tropical cyclone Oma in the Coral Sea are forecast to effect South East Queensland Coastal Waters from late Wednesday 20/02/19 and continue into this weekend. The expected peak of the cyclone is around Saturday 23/02/19 and Sunday 24/02/19 at this stage. Conditions like this have not been experienced in SEQ for several years and is predicted to have significant impact to SEQ coasts.

Maritime Safety Queensland encourages you and your respective members/volunteers/employees to:

Ensure mooring lines and anchored vessels are checked and secured. Add additional lines if in doubt.
Continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend
Prepare areas that may be affected by higher than normal tides and dangerous surf.
Please refer to the Bureau of Meteorology for further detailed information and review against your expected operations during this period.
